The film lover’s dilemma.

16 September, 2008

Next Monday, my 11:00 Coen Brothers class — that’s right, I’m in a Coen Brothers class — is cancelled so we can all see Burn After Reading and talk about it the next Friday. Therefore I was planning on finishing my paper for my 9:00 class early and taking the whole day off so I can sleep in. Then I look at the syllabus. And we’re watching Bicycle Thieves that class.

Now I know what you’re thinking: Just Netflix it. If I say that, however, I will never watch the film. I understand it’s one of the all-time great movies but I just haven’t gotten around to it. Sure, I could force myself to get it ASAP, but who knows if I really will? And I really could use a good night’s sleep…

What is a film lover to do?

Noah, this is Mr. Russell speaking. You have to go see this movie, if only because it’s an important piece of film, and I assume you’ll be seeing it on a decent-sized screen of some sort? — and with other people? — and you don’t want to sacrifice that experience, and end up watching it on your computer with Cinnamon Toast Crunch cinnamon crunch crumbs littered on your shirt. Show a little respect!
