Could this be a REAL return to form?

8 October, 2008

Greenaway is making the rounds with his new documentary, Rembrandt’s J’Accuse, a follow-up to the biopic Nightwatching. I’ve just read two reviews that sound rather promising (one at Screen Daily and one from the Hollywood Reporter) and I’m wondering if this is Greenaway’s actual return to form whereas Nightwatching was The Draughtsman’s Contract as if a Greenaway copycat had made it (I liked the film but it’s not nearly as great as I feel it could’ve been.) But this is a documentary (in a way) and arguably some of his best films are his early short documentaries such as The Sea in Their Blood and A Walk Through H. Maybe some benevolent arthouse distributor will smile upon the director and decide to release one of his films for the first time in a decade. And for more than a week as with 8 1/2 Women.
