In case you missed the Critics Choice awards…

9 January, 2009

The show is a good indicator of how the Academy Awards are going to turn out. The highlight last night was not seeing Heath Ledger secure his posthumous Oscar, not seeing Slumdog Millionaire win five trophies, but seeing that McLovin dude and the chick who sings “I Kissed a Girl (But I Liked It)” present the Best Original Song award to Bruce Springsteen for The Wrestler. The Boss wasn’t there to accept it so he said, “Accepting it is this guy.” She said, “I don’t know who he is.” And who emerged on the stage but DARREN FUCKING ARONOFSKY, THE DIRECTOR OF THE GODDAMN FILM!!!

He seemed to take it in stride, and he was sporting a fantastic mustache, but seriously. Do these people have no manners? Even if you don’t know who he is, don’t open your stupid yap and admit it. The man has directed one of the films up for Best Picture at that particular show. The man is married to an A-list, Academy Award-winning actress. And, on top of that, you are presenting at an awards ceremony honoring filmmakers! Filmmakers! Use the Google!

Darren Aronofsky is an artist who will be remembered. Those two jackasses — I’ve purposely forgotten their names — won’t be remembered by anyone.
